Based on the Microsoft Windows CE operating system, the 5023 supports the most commonly used software tools and connectivity protocols making the device quicker and easier to implement, resulting in faster return on investment. The 5023 supports programming environments such as Visual Basic, Visual C++, and HTML. It also supports standard TCP/IP so that it can easily be linked directly into a corporate Intranet. To make management of the 5023 quicker, easier, and significantly less expensive, it supports standard SNMP. Each unit comes standard with remote configuration and management capabilities that can be accessed over the Internet from a desktop PC web browser.
The 5023 combines Windows CE with wireless networking, graphics and value-added features that allow users to easily perform data collection.
The advanced features of the 5023 are packaged in an ergonomic pistol grip style form factor. Which lives up to Intermec's reputation for durable, industrial products. The 5023 is tested against water and dust intrusion, temperature extremes and multiple 5-foot drops to concrete without damage or data loss.

2D scanning, smart card support and future RFID options make the 5023 the most flexible data collection device in Intermec's family. It's two standard PC-Card slots allow the 5023 to make use of the latest software technologies or applications and also provide temporary storage facility for the increasing amounts of data that can be made available with 2-D bar codes, RFID tags, and higher bandwidth wireless networks.
